Wooly Coat vs. Plush Coat Husky Some Differences?

I’m not sure if wooly coats have a harder time regulating than plush huskies that I’ve had but I will tell you they require a lot of grooming which we do monthly. I do know in the winter because of the long coat they’re actually more subject to have issues with precipitation & snow/ice freezing on their hair and causing problems. So that’s what I’m always on the lookout for as I’ve had it happen without negative effects because I understood the situation. CLICK ON THE HUSKY DOGS LOGO FOR MORE ON HUSKY COATS

Should I Cut My Huskies Fur to be Cooler in the Summer?

Never cut or shave a double coated dog’s fur unless for medical purposes! Their fur insulates and protects even in warmer temps including protection from the sun, insects, and sharp objects like branches, even blades of grass as they roll on the ground sometimes. They are constantly shedding and blow their coat usually twice a year. It’s important their coat be maintained through proper grooming (shampoo, coat conditioner, blow drying and plenty of brushing) to help move and brush out the dead hair without cutting, because if the dead hair that they’ve shed isn’t properly removed It will stifle their insulation process which can effect their ability to cool as well as create matting and become a breeding ground for bacteria to grow. If shaven you also risk it may not grow back the same and in some places it may leave bald spots (I’ve had that happen from medical procedures) than the dog can be further compromised from winter cold.CLICK ON THE HUSKY DOGS LOGO TO READ MORE ABOUT GROOMING THEM
